Computer shuts off

When using this program my computer just shuts down randomly. I have disabled temp logging and it still does it.

This is the only program that causes any problem like this with my computer.

M2N32-SLI Deluxe
AMD 4200+ X2 Windsor
EVGA 7900 GT
2 GB Corsair XMS 6400
OCZ 600W PSU

What do you mean just shuts down?

Does it turn off windows, or randomely kills power to the computer?

I have test with 0.94 an my computer just shout down after 5-7min.
It feels like it kills the power to the computer.
I have disable logging .
And when cpu mhz is go up and down i speed.
the program crash. ( Clockgen)
I have a server with a opty 148 and C&Q is on,so every time it go up or down in speed. core temp crash.

It totally shuts down the computer. No power or anything. I was using v0.91 when i first built this computer and occasionally it would just shut down. I tried everything to figure out what was causing it, until I downloaded v0.92 and then within 20 seconds of running it computer just shut down again. I read on here that disabling temp logging might fix this problem, and it seemed to run ok, but I havent run coretemp for more then 1 minute in case it happened again.

Yesterday I downloaded v0.94 and had temp logging disabled(I think they put that in by default now). Within 5 minutes of it running wham shutdown again.

To tell you the thruth that is quite odd.
You're the only one I heard who found this kind of problem.

I will see if I can fix it but for noww in v0.94 temp logging is not off by default so check it out.

Oh one other odd thing. Not sure if I was running v0.91 or v0.92 but one night l left it running overnight. When I woke up the cpu use was at almost 100%(noticed this because my temps were at 55c or so), so I looked in task manager and coretemp was the culprit. No idea what hppened there, and it only happened once, but it was probably the only time I had it running overnight.

Temp logging was disabled when it shut down yesterday.

I still haven't figured out what's causing the random shutdowns.
I have gotten more than a few messages about this problem happening.

I wish I had a K8 here to debug on, but I don't unfortunately. I'll see what I can do to figure out this problem.

i can also say i am having this issue aswell, mostly while gaming. the pc just shuts off without any warning no log off or shutdown screen just kills the power. but with the program not running i dont get this issue.

im using 0.94, and my pc specs are

AMD X2 3800+
asus m2n-e mobo
1 gb DDR2 ram
ati radeon x1600 pro
450w power supply

I'm sorry to say, but I just can't find the reason for these random shutdowns.

I would recommend seeing if there is some other program that is also running and might conflict with Core Temp and cause this phenomena.
I just went over the code and didn't see anywhere a piece of stray code that could enduce this kind of behaviour.
I would recommend trying to leave all other monitoring/speed reading software off and see if Core Temp works fine.

The only thing I can think of right now is two different programs might trying to read/write the same memory block/register at the same time and causes a hard shutdown.

Hi all,
I seen to be having the same issue, i originally thought it was due to my over clocking but when i returned my system to stock the same thing happened. When back checked all my settings and stressed the comp for 24 hours all good but i was not running core temp. I haven't tried it with out logging but will let you know. One think i have noticed is i can tell just before it will shut down, core temp will give me readings of 206c for a single core at random a number of times then shut down.

I'm working on a solution.
I'm now testing it to see if the changes I've made will fix this problem.

I also have betting getting readings of 206 degrees on my opteron 165 and have experienced sporadic shutdowns like described above. Power on -> power off. I eagerly await the next version in hopes that it solves this problem as it is a great program.

I want to ask you guys what did you set for the Core Temp reading interval?
Try increasing it to 5-10 seconds and see if this problem still remains.

I had changed logging to 7000ms and reading to 5000ms and came home to find the machine shut off again. I will repeat with both reading and logging the same as it occurs to me now that having them at different intervals isn't the smartest thing.

I almost returned my Athlon 64 X2 4400+ because I thought that it was faulty. After some reading through forums and trying different things, I too have come to the conclusion that CoreTemp is causing my computer to shut down or lock-up. If I run the program for a few minutes to 15 min. it is guaranteed to shut down or freeze. I can be running Prime95 or just browsing the web, doesn't matter, same bad result. Thank goodness I figured this out because my X2 overclocks like a beast

Hiya all, just had this happen to my system so went about looking for reasons/solutions.

Was just playing a game when it happened so obviously i was alarmed at the time, but after reading various forums, i now know its a core temp problem.

One thing i did notice though is the shut down seems to be caused by incorrect reading of the temp. I have temp logging on all the time so a quick glance through it revealed something which is most likely the cause of the system shutting down.

Just a snippet from my core temp log but as you can see, the temp spike is most likely what causes the shut down. 206c is max the amd cpu can output so clearly its a glitch.

600 watt coolermaster power supply

Maxtor 120 gig sata
Onstalled fresh windows XP 32 bit, SP2

Computer can run all day long no problems, core temp is @ 35C. I jump in to half Life 2 deathmatch, after 5 - 10 minutes the computer shuts down. I run 3dmark, after 5 - 10 minutes the computer shuts down.
I personally don't think the CPU is overheating, but just to be sure, I went and picked up Arctic Siler Thermal grease and reseated the CPU with the new grease and the same thing happens. It appears the only time the computer shuts down is when I run a graphics program. Anyone have any thoughts as to what else could be causing the shutdown.

Hiya. I'm having the odd computer shut off as well (although mine just restarts). I once saw some sort of pop up screen - I don't think it was from Windows, though (error reporting turned off), so I'm guessing it was from Core Temp. Although...

The program only seems to work one in every three or four starts. When it doesn't work, my computer restarts itself. I thought it was an overclock at first, until I set my E4300 back to 200 MHz on the FSB and relaxed the RAM timings to 4-4-4-12 at 2.0v. So that shouldn't be 'taxing' the system, I don't think - unless the RAM's getting too much voltage. When I do get it to work, the temperatures are like that of Intel's TAT, and 15 above SpeedFan 4.32, idling at around 42 C in stock configurations.

Just reporting in, I suppose, with the same problem.

samething here see sig for hardware E4300 system. i was doing 2 FAH clients then downloaded .95 ran it, it just shutdown my rig. thought it was not enough juice for 2.4ghz mild oc which was stable for 16hrs+ in orthos. didnt run FAH just tried to start .95 same thing just shutsdown my rig. thought it was cause the bios does not have the micro code to ID the cpu on bootup. after reading here i see that isnt the case. something we can do to help?
