Re: Incorrect BCLK reported and wrong # of cores/threads (Alder Lake)

Post by JohnDoh337 »

(EDIT:I restarted the pc and it fixed the incorrect frequency but the Total thread count still shows 28 instead of 20)

I also have an Alder Lake processor (12700h) that Core Temp displays incorrect Frequency and Thread count.

Same here. Not showing my 12900K correctly and not working with All CPU Meter v4.7.3.

Can't help you with All CPU Meter. Check what happens with the Core Temp Gadget.
And please explain what isn't working exactly.
In regards to the issues with bclk being incorrectly read, I'm aware, and working on figuring out why it's going on.

The wrong number of threads displayed will be fixed in the next version.

Regarding the wrong BCLK issue. Do you guys have other hardware monitoring tools running together with Core Temp?
The issue should reproduce/fix itself simply by refreshing Core Temp, or you can enable "On the fly FSB detection" in Options --> Settings --> Advanced.
Please try to see if closing every other program resolves the problem, makes it worse or does nothing and report back with findings.

I merged all the incorrect bclk threads into one to reduce clutter.
It appears that all of these issues have the same root cause. Working on getting it sorted out.

I did all of that and nothing changed.

I figured as much. It sounds like Intel did something, maybe a microcode update, that somehow breaks the functionality of the register used to read out the BCLK from the CPU.

Re: Incorrect BCLK frequency on Intel platforms

It appears that the problem is caused by virtualization being enabled on Windows 11 Intel based systems.
It can be caused by having Hyper-V enabled and/or Memory Integrity and/or Core Isolation options being turned on.
Please try to disable these options, at least temporarily, and see if it solves the problem for you.

Thanks for chasing this up!

It seems that (in my case at least) both Virtual Machine Platform and Core Isolation are playing a part into the causes the problem.

I just tested turning off Virtual Machine Platform (And subsequently Windows Subsystem for Linux) in Windows Features and after restarting my PC, Core Temp displayed everything correctly again.

I re-enabled just the Virtual Machine Platform component (didn't install the WSL component), restarted, and once again the issue returned.

I already had Core Isolation's Memory Integrity disabled, so also tested re-enabling it, once with Virtual Machine Platform enabled and once with it disabled and Core Temp re-exhibited the same BCLK frequency issues both times Memory Integrity was enabled.

I just got your PM but I'm unable to reply directly to it, here's the information requested, it's certainly more accurate although the BCLK is still slightly incorrect compared to other pieces of software I have/use, though this is indeed a more intended, thanks

NOTE: I am using High Performance power plan here to force the CPU into turbo state, 100MHz BCLK with a 43x core multipler is what should be expected.

Thanks!

It seems to work for me now. Thank you!

Now I need to figure out what's holding my CPU clock that high, although I have adaptive profile and cpu usage is 0 % but that doesn't belong to this topic...

Re: Incorrect BCLK frequency on Intel platforms

The new "official" version is out, Intel BCLK detection has been reworked, some workarounds have been applied for when the OC Mailbox MSR is not accessible.
The current solution is still not perfect, but it's now mostly accurate, although the BCLK frequency may be off by about 1MHz.
I will continue to look for a better and more accurate solution for this issue.

I'm not as savvy with this as most of you are. I might have found a bug. I can't seem to get my paste to work in here. The program shows normal core temps under no load, but a highest temp of 167ish in the notification area. I'm sorry I can't paste images in here for some reason. Fahrenheit, not Celsius.
